The Positive Power of Leadership Habits
Richard Leslie Parrott, Ph.D.

A wise leader makes good decisions. An effective leader implements the decision. Implementing a good decision determines your effectiveness. Two tasks guide effective implantation:

(1)
Get everyone
on the same page

by being
clear and consistent.

(2)
Bring out the best
in each person

through encouragement
and empowerment.

These two tasks are so essential to leadership they must become a pattern, custom, and routine – a matter of habits – the best leadership habits.

Habits have great power over our lives. Below are a few thoughts on the influence of habits. Which quote best connects with you?

___ Thoughts lead on to purposes; purposes go forth in action; actions form habits; habits decide character; and character fixes our destiny (Tyron Edwards).

___ A nail is driven out by another nail. Habit is overcome by habit (Erasmus).

___ First we form habits, and then they form us (Rob Gilbert).

___ Habit is either the best of servants or the worst of masters (Nathaniel Emmons).

___ Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going (Jim Ryum).

QUESTION:  What are your “go-to” leadership habits?
